A career in our State and Local Indirect Tax practice, within State and Local Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients solve their business issues related to business restructuring, adoption of new tax laws, and communicating local tax developments. You’ll help with assessing our client’s state and local tax burden and recommend solutions that support their overall business objectives to ensure that their filling positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states applicable tax laws and rules.
Our team helps our clients manage their indirect tax responsibilities related to value added taxes, sales and use taxes, goods and services taxes, federal excise taxes, and other transaction taxes. You’ll help with identifying and exploring indirect tax opportunities and issues related to business expansion, systems and controls, refunds and cash flow, and policy and design.

Demonstrates extensive abilities and/or a proven record of success as a team leader by:
Possessing working knowledge of a variety of federal, state, and local excise tax laws, regulations, policies and procedures;
Possessing experience or familiarity with the following excise tax consulting services: tax compliance, tax planning, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits, and controversy;
Having excise tax knowledge ideally related to some of the following industries: energy, transportation, aviation, retail, manufacturing, casinos & gaming, tobacco, firearms, or sporting goods;
Being skilled at identifying and addressing client needs: building, maintaining, and utilizing networks of client relationships and community involvement; communicating value propositions; managing resource requirements, project workflow, budgets, billing and collections; and preparing and/or coordinating complex written and verbal materials;
Being skilled at tax technical research of federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and other guidance, including applying said guidance to client facts and circumstances, and preparing and communicating advice on specific tax research topics;
Having experience as a tax-specific business advisor, including developing new relationships, making introductions to sell new services and doing so with a collaborative mindset;
Possessing working knowledge of general professional service pricing strategies;
Having familiarity with a CRM system;
Having experience supervising teams and creating an atmosphere of trust; seeking diverse views to encourage improvement and innovation; and coaching staff including providing timely meaningful written and verbal feedback;
Having experience working with large data sets, leveraging automation, digitization and visualization tools in a professional services environment;
Having prior exposure to tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, UiPath, PowerBI as well as ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle;
Having knowledge of tax specific software such as Avalara, Vertex, or OneSource; and,
Having familiarity with research software such as CCH, Westlaw, Factiva, BNA, etc.
