PwC Digital Solution Architects are responsible for establishing the technical vision, direction and solution approach for our digital solutions, and work with our Tech Leads and developers (both onshore/offshore) to turn the vision into reality with an on-time and quality delivery.

In lieu of a Bachelor Degree, 12 years of professional experience involving technology-focused process improvements, transformations, and/or system implementations.

Required Knowledge and Skills :

Solution Architects are expected to have previous solution architecture, application architecture expertise along with full stack development experience utilizing agile development techniques/methodologies and the following:

  • Customizing Solution products/applications with a web-based systems architecture following microservices, event-driven enterprise application architecture patterns;

  • Providing and communicate unified technical vision for software products and breaks down vision into tangible tasks for developers;

  • Leading by demonstration of technical expertise (i.e. hands-on) across full technology stack (front-end, back-end, data modeling, 3rd party integration);

  • Managing performance of offshore and onshore developers through effective task breakdown, management, prioritization, and alignment of work to resource capabilities;

  • Scaling team productivity by decomposing user stories and features into individual units of work;

  • Contributing with written code and provides code reviews to ensure adherence to solution design;

  • Designing solutions with appropriate data architecture, data modeling and data management considerations across relational, columnar and NoSQL;

  • Designing solutions with appropriate considerations for advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics;

  • Participating in the cost estimation process by recommending the skills and numbers of developers required, and by performing effort estimation given product requirements;

  • Coordinating with customer, product team disciplines (e.g. UX/UI, DevOps, QA) and other product-related teams to build, test, and deploy software products;

  • Identifying technical risks and and proactively address issues that may have an impact on service levels or schedules;

  • Understanding and apply agile software development techniques/methodologies to effect continuous quality improvement across people and processes;

  • Maintaining responsibility for the quality and viability of software engineering deliverables by providing recommendations on technical solutions including design, build/buy decisions, open-source tooling, etc.;

  • Collaborating with Product Management, and other Tech Leads to define the design, development, and support toolsets and processes to improve the overall efficacy of product teams;

  • Providing direction and guidance, hands-on development support, code review, development oversight, and support to successfully deliver on time with quality; and,

  • Contributing to ongoing process and methodology improvements; and, establishing architecture governance with compliance of technology solutions with architectural patterns and standards.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills :

Demonstrates extensive knowledge and/or a proven record of success in managerial roles involving executing various aspects of client engagements and/or projects within a professional services environment, including the following areas:

  • Maintaining large infrastructure on premise and/or in the cloud;

  • Working with automated configuration and deployment;

  • Working with Docker and related containerization and orchestration technologies;

  • Working with both cloud deployment and on premise release workflows;

  • Working with cloud providers and large hardware installations;

  • Working knowledge and a solid foundation in the basics around how to operate and secure: web servers, databases, systems and configuration management;

  • Working with networking, load balancing, clustering and firewall/security group security concepts;

  • Working knowledge with Linux and Windows systems administration and security concepts;

  • Working knowledge and experience with of several distributions of Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat) and Windows;

  • Working knowledge and experience with version control software like GitHub, TFS;

  • Working experience with Jenkins/related CI tools, virtualization and Dockers and maintaining and managing cloud infrastructure on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud; and,

  • Demonstrating extensive knowledge of cloud providers and large hardware installations, modern continuous development and integration tools, have an understanding of Linux and Windows OS and internals, and be familiar with Development Operations methodologies and practices.

Demonstrates extensive abilities and/or a proven record of success in the following areas:

  • Leading and motivating distributed teams;

  • Fostering team commitment to tasks and influencing key people inside and outside of the group;

  • Demonstrating a flexible communication style based on the audience (i.e., eliminating technical jargon when needed or deep diving into technical details with the development team);

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, building relationships and achieving results without a direct reporting relationship;

  • Collaborating with Solution, Application and Data Architects to understand and enable our rapidly evolving development infrastructure;

  • Working with our Product Managers defining infrastructure requirements, SLAs and support requirements for their respective analytic apps/business platforms and associated market facing offerings;

  • Managing the support infrastructure requirements across a portfolio of analytic apps/business platforms with a team of offshore members;

  • Implementing a monitoring and review process to proactively manage needs and establish uptime, stability and reliable access to apps/platforms;

  • Establishing all issues are resolved in a timely manner, while maintaining customer satisfaction;

  • Coordinating the escalation of major technical service issues to the appropriate teams within PwC IT/Cloud;

  • Supporting provider/3rd party as needed;

  • Communicating planned infrastructure activities proactively to the stakeholders;

  • Performing necessary security monitoring, log analysis, and collecting performance metrics for continuous monitoring and improvement; and,

  • Leading continual efforts to automate processes and procedures around apps/ platform infrastructure and provide reliable performance.
